Milk Medicine

Milk Medicine

Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services recognizes that milk medicine (breastmilk) is our first traditional source of nutrition and supports the healthy growth and development of all babies and children.

We are committed to revitalizing, reclaiming, and preserving milk medicine, by creating culturally safe, welcoming, and supportive environments that promote maternal child health and well-being. Our vision is to see our Communities come together to honour, strengthen and preserve access to Milk Medicine as sacred knowledge and lifelong nourishment, while carrying these traditions forward for generations to come.

When we support the practice of breastfeeding, we take part in a shared ceremony of love and care that nourishes our babies, our bodies, our spirits and our community relationships. Milk medicine is grounded in Mino ayawin and Mino-bimaadiziiwin.
